New Computers

The Architectural Technologies program has once again configured the lab with new, state-of-the-art computer workstations. Our students are now using Dell Precision Workstation 490s. These are Custom Built, High-End computer workstations specifically designed for CAD and 3D Modeling applications. They have Dual Quad-Core processors running at 2.66GHz, 4GB of RAM, DVD/CDRW Drives, 512MB NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 video cards pushing Dual 24" widescreen high-definition LCD Flat Panel monitors via Digital (DVI) connections. These systems are also running Microsofts new Windows Vista Enterprise Operating System.

ARC190 - Presentation Graphics

Those working toward their AAS in Architectural Technologies now have a new option, ARC190 - Presentation Graphics. This new course is being offered as an option to CAD162 - Introduction to Multimedia. Students may now choose to take ARC190 instead of CAD162.

ARC190 has been designed as an exploration into architectural presentation graphics. Students learn about appropriate graphic techniques relating to the different phases in the design and documentation processes. As opposed to CAD162, this course does not concentrate on any, single software package. The idea of this course is that students learn the concept behind architectural presentation graphics without being tied down to any single application. A student could even choose to take this course using hand-rendering techniques. Topics include:

  • Color
  • Line quality and lineweight
  • Shade and shadow
  • Foliage and vegetation
  • Reflection, Entourage, and related finishing touches
